Josh Kirby spends most of his time doing work for the band Moving Mountains. However like most musicians nowadays, he stretched his creative wings and began a side project. This side project, Mount Carmel and the End of the World, has found its way into my music collection. As I still dig into…

Hiatus/Year.01 Pay-What-You-Want + Bonus Tunes
Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately, due to extensive touring with Moving Mountains, I’m going to be putting Mount Carmel and the End of the World on a ‘Mid-Season Hiatus’ for a little while. This weeks song ‘The Ghost in Everything’ marks the 10th track for this year and I’m going to do another 10 when we get a break from touring (probably during the summer). Thank you to everyone who’s supported this project so far, it’s been an incredible experience for me that I can’t wait to keep building on in the very near future.
In keeping with the experimental theme of Mount Carmel, I’m going to try something that I’ve been toying with for a little while. For the next two weeks I’m going to be offering the first 10 songs in the Year.01 collection (http://mtcarmel.bandcamp.com/album/year-01) with pay-what-you-want pricing. You’re more than welcome to snag it for free if you want to BUT if you pay at least $5 for it I’ll send you the first 5 songs from the next half for free. The collection also includes an acoustic version of the song ‘onceevertwiceover’ and the cover art for each individual song. Hop to it! Hope to see some of you these next few months on the road with Mov Mou, if not I’ll see you in the summer!
Cheers.

The Ghost in Everything - March 5th, 2012
LYRICS
I felt the moment
I felt at any moment
I could do this without you around
but it was fleeting
the ghost in everything
I guessed wrong and got stuck in this town
(but since you belonged to me)
I hit the ceiling
collapsed and everything
after 6 months it felt good to be down
but since you belonged to me
I never felt doubt
I can do this for me
so I’m coming home
until then stay out of everything
so I can be alone
I found the meaning
the coast on everything
we were dead long before you made a sound
but since you belonged to me
I never felt doubt
I can do this for me
so I’m coming home
until then stay out of everything
so I can be alone
watch it break away
the colors
watch them fade
the colors
I can do this for me
so I’m coming home
until then stay out of everything
so I can be alone

Tensile - February 27th, 2012
LYRICS
you could blame it on the distance
that wore the soles of our feet
but you don’t expect a heart to just die off
after everything you’ve been through with me
all you ever wanted (it won’t be enough)
was a hand to pull you out (to find the strength to keep up)
and I couldn’t be enough (it’s too far to find hope we’re sick and it’s all my fault)
I kick myself (please don’t forget)
and hope you’ll keep (the things we did)
a part of me around (and who we’ve been and become)
did you feel us fading out (my love)
I’m pulling off all my skin
in the places where you should be
and coming back an empty naked mess
I’m sure there’ll be an answer someday
all you ever wanted (it won’t be enough)
was a hand to pull you out (to find the strength to keep up)
and I couldn’t be enough (it’s too far to find hope we’re sick and it’s all my fault)
I kick myself (please don’t forget)
and hope you’ll keep (the things we did)
a part of me around (and who we’ve been and become)
did you feel us fading out (my love)

Postage - February, 20th 2012
LYRICS
you laid it on the table
came at me with aggressive intent
erratic and unstable
you didn’t even know what you wanted
it’s hard for me to come back from
your harrowing suspicion of what I did
so are you giving up?
it was from the past out of common sense
but you lingered on the tense
and held it to the chest as you paced for days
and watched everything change
you held me to the meaning
I came back with an honest defense
it isn’t what you’re seeing
just a lack of proof it exists
it was from the past out of common sense
but you lingered on the tense
and held it to the chest as you paced for days
and watched everything change
so are you giving up?
it was from the past out of common sense
but you lingered on the tense
and held it to the chest as you paced for days
and watched everything change
(and now it feels to late)

The Plan - February 13th, 2012
LYRICS
you shouldn’t give it attention
‘cause it can’t hear you
you live to give it a living
the pushing wears me out
I misunderstand and react
if you’re so eager to bring me down
come on wear me out
we won’t bury ourselves with you
and if it’s blood you want
then I can surely get it right
we all heard the alarm ring
but nothings changing
we funnel into position
and then come dripping out
if we stick to the plan
like you said from the start
it should all work out
but nothings working now
we won’t bury ourselves with you
and if it’s blood you want
and nothing close to the way we’re taught
and you have to hold onto the ways you used to start
things begin to come apart
they come apart
we won’t bury ourselves with you
and if it’s blood you want
then I can surely get it right

The Blessing - February 6th, 2012
LYRICS
lately I’ve been avoiding my digressions
they’re handed down out from loaded mouths that can’t sing
I turned away and I got cold while you were taken from the hospital
and spent your days questioning my face between sleep
I will always need your blessing
as the black cars leave down the road God treat her right
I hung around for a while you got uneasy
was a stranger there before you left you never spoke of all the things you did
just regrets
I will always need your blessing
as the black cars leave down the road God treat her right
it came right when they said but just at the wrong time
I’m holding on for now to the parts of you I find
I felt you close your eyes
I will always need your blessing
as the black cars leave down the road God treat her right
